What is FACTS?
We are part of the national Fertility Appreciation Collaborative to Teach the Systems. At UT Southwestern, we are a student group spreading the word of fertility awareness based methods and their usefulness to fellow students, faculty and the general public. We have general student body meetings and electives at UT Southwestern to inform and recruit students, service projects in the community to educate those who are curious in the general public, and research to quantify the level of interest. Fertility awareness based methods allow a woman to track her fertility throughout her menstrual cycle by daily observing physical signs of hormonal changes. This has applications to gynecologic health, self-awareness, and family planning. To learn the different FABMS and what they do, click here. FACT: a woman is only fertile for 6 days per cycle (NEJM 1995) FACT: Charting can help women identify diseases and abnormalities FACT: Surveys suggest that more than 1 in 5 women are interested in learning about fertility awareness based methods, either to achieve or avoid pregnancy.
